The beautiful etched-glass exterior makes a great first impression, and Loons lives up to its promise. The consummate neighbourhood watering hole, this Roncesvalles pub draws its fair share of regulars. And it's no wonder: the bartender seems to know everyone by name (or at least by their drink order), and there's always a friendly crowd on hand for an after-work pint. Framed newspaper clippings featuring local lore help add to the community feel. Active types partake in rousing shuffleboard sessions, compete in video golf tournaments or play DJ on the jukebox; you can also catch the game on one of six TVs. Poker nights (during the winter months), sports-themed events and regular live Friday music jams (where patrons can join in) add variety. The kitchen dishes up standard pub fare-burgers, chicken wings, onion rings-along with pierogies (this is Roncey, after all). Twelve beers and ales available on tap include Guinness and Caffrey's, along with plenty of domestic brews. A heated backyard patio seats 95. (Toronto Life)

A classic Canadian English-styled pub, Loons is one of the High Park neighbourhood's most reputably comfortable establishments. Staying true to its patrons, the dark wood finishing (offset by some rather striking colours on the walls) is highlighted with memorabilia and prints that honour the community's history. Similarly, the spirits, wine and draught beer choices are straight-forward, a nod to the regular patrons who enjoy the bar's easy-going, simple nature. (Toronto Plus.ca)

LOONS' spacious back patio seems to be a well-kept secret of the neighborhood, think of it as Little Poland's version of Toronto's Madison Pub. Though it's a place where you'll find the usual pub grub and brews on tap, they do serve up weekend brunch too if you're a fan of the hollandaise. (blogto.com)
